Breast Biopsy/Excision of Breast Lump - following your operation;

You should have been given a leaflet "What is a Breast Biopsy" by the Breast Care Nurses, but if not please ask your nurse, he/she will ensure you get one. This information sheet is to tell you what to expect after your operation.

Stitches:

You have/have not got stitches to remove. Some stitches dissolve on their own and some need to be removed. If your stitches need to be removed you will be given instructions before you leave the day surgery unit.

Dressings:

Please keep the dressing on and keep it clean and dry until your appointment at either your GP's surgery or the out-patient department.

Swelling:

You can expect some swelling and occasionally some bruising around the wound for a few days. If you become concerned please telephone the contact numbers.

Pain:

You can expect to have mild pain after your operation. Paracetamol or something similar may be taken but please follow the recommended dose on the container.
