EUA (Examination Under Anaesthetic), Spincterotomy, Anal Stretch, Anal Fissure, Sigmoidoscopy - Advice Following These Procedures:

Diet:

After your operation please ensure you take a diet consisting of high fibre foods as this will prevent constipation.

Pain:

You may feel sore after the operation, Paracetamol or similar painkillers should give adequate pain relief. Please follow the recommended dose on the container.

Baths:

Take regular baths unless advised otherwise, but DO NOT add anything to the bath water, e.g.: Bubble Bath or Bath Oils

Bleeding:

If you bleed and it becomes heavy, or you are concerned please telephone the contact number (see below)

Work:

You should be able to return to work as soon as you feel well enough to do so.

Important:

If you have had a general anaesthetic today we advise you not to drive a vehicle, operate machinery or home appliances, drink alcoholic drinks or make any important decisions for 24 hours.

Should you need to consult your GP (Family Doctor) with a problem related to your operation within 3 weeks of surgery we would appreciate you contacting the Day Surgery Unit. This will enable us to monitor your progress. Please ask to speak to the liaison nurse (Tel: 01482 675066)

Should you need any further help or advice please telephone the Day Surgery Unit, 8.00am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday (Tel: 01482 675066) At other times, only in an emergency please contact Ward 60 (Tel: 01482 674252)
