Plastic Surgery - Advice following your operation.

Stitches:

The surgeon may use either stitches which dissolve on their own or stitches which may need to be removed.

Dressings:

There may be no dressing, a dressing which is stitched to the skin, adhesive paper strips or an adherent dressing. Please try not to get the wound or dressing wet.

Pain:

Local anaesthetic is often injected during the operation, when this wears off in a few hours, any pain may be relieved by Paracetamol or similar painkillers, please follow the recommended dosage. If pain persists or is severe, please call the contact number below.

Swelling:

Mild swelling after your operation may last for few days, particularly in the eyelids. Please telephone the contact number below if the swelling increases or is associated with pain or redness.

Special Areas:

Eyelids; Swelling is common after surgery. You are usually asked to apply ointment three times a day. DO NOT DRIVE

Nose; Do not blow your nose or wipe it vigorously. A pack may be left in the nostril, if so, please try to keep it in.

Mouth; You may be asked not to wear your dentures and eat a soft diet for a few days. Avoid hot liquids immediately after your operation. Wash your mouth with water after each meal.

Ears; Avoid sleeping on the affected ear.

If you have had a general anaesthetic today we advise you not to drive a vehicle, operate machinery, take alcoholic drinks or make important decisions for 24 hours. You will need a responsible adult to stay with you for 24 hours following your operation.
