Plastic Surgery Rhinoplasy - Advice following your operation.

Stitches:

The doctor may use stitches that will dissolve on their own or stitches which may have to be removed. Dissolvable stitches may take up to three weeks to dissolve. Other stitches will be removed at the dressing clinic.

Dressings:

It is usual for your nose to be packed with a dressing, instructions about removal will be given on the day of your operation. Any dressing should be kept clean and dry until removed.

Bleeding:

If your wound bleeds, sit straight up and apply gentle pressure for 5 minutes. If bleeding persists please call the contact number below for advice.

Pain:

Local anaesthetic is often injected during the operation, when this wears off in a few hours, any pain or discomfort may be relieved by simple pain killers such as Paracetamol, please follow the recommended dosage. If pain persists or becomes severe please contact the number below for advice.

Swelling:

Mild swelling after your operation can be expected and may last a few days. Please call the contact number below if the swelling is associated with pain or redness.

Work or School:

If may be necessary to spend some time at home resting, your consultant will advise you on the day or your operation.

If you have had a general anaesthetic today we advise you not to drive a vehicle, operate machinery, take alcoholic drinks or make important decisions for 24 hours. You will need a responsible adult to stay with you for 24 hours following your operation.
