Meatotomy - Advice for Parents.

What is a Meatotomy?

This means the opening at the end of the penis has been stretched to enable the flow of urine to improve.

Postoperative Care:

After the operation your child may eat and drink normally.

Your child may have a bath on the evening after the operation and may find this soothing.

Calpol (Paracetamol) will help to reduce any discomfort your child may experience. Please follow the recommended dosage.

If your child passes blood in his urine after the operation please encourage him to drink extra fluids until it clears.

Your child may return to school as soon as he feel wells enough to do so.

Should you need to consult your GP (Family Doctor) with a problem related to your operation within 3 weeks of surgery we would appreciate you contacting the Day Surgery Unit. This will enable us to monitor your progress. Please ask to speak to the paediatric nurse (Tel: 01482 675066)
